Drummer AANTAR LEE COATES Vows To Continue Using DIABOLIC Name For New Project
July 19, 2006DIABOLIC drummer Aantar Lee Coates has issued a statement dismissing threats of legal action by the group's former guitarist Brian Malone over Aantar's use of the DIABOLIC name for his current project (see previous BLABBERMOUTH.NET stories: Story#1, Story#2).
"In regards to Brian Malone's statement, I have legally applied for the name/trademark DIABOLIC after clearly seeing that Brian Malone carelessly ABANDONED the name DIABOLIC after he had many years to renew the mark," Aantar begins in the statement. "Not only did I come up with the band name 'DIABOLIC' in 1996 in Silver Spring, MD after leaving HORROR OF HORRORS, I have every RIGHT to the name. I have legal representation and will play live shows and record albums with this new lineup consisting of Jesse Jolly (bass/vocals),R.J. (lead guitars) and ex-UNHOLY GHOST [member] Kelly McLauchlin (lead guitars). I started the band DIABOLIC and will continue with it. My entertainment attorney has assured me that NO illegal activity has ever taken place on my part.
"Brian Malone's decision to break up DIABOLIC was his own many years ago.
"The new DIABOLIC lineup will play as scheduled on September 2 with MONSTROSITY and PATHS OF POSSESSION in Tampa, Florida at the Brass Mug.
"Thanks to metalheads around the world for your support over the years.
"The new DIABOLIC album, titled 'Shellfire and Tombstones', is now being recorded at D.O.W. [Diet of Worms] studios.
"The only disgrace here is Brian Malone going this far to tarnish my name, Aantar Lee Coates, after many tours and sacrifice for my band DIABOLIC!!!
"Thanks again to the fans that are supporting DIABOLIC!!! LONG LIVE DEATH METAL!!!!"
